PEPPER’s First Press Release
Published: 1. July 2025
On 30 June 2025, the PEPPER project published its first official press release, introducing its vision for advancing clean hydrogen production through planar Proton-conducting Ceramic Electrolysis Cells (PCCELs).
Operating at intermediate temperatures (400–600°C), this innovative technology offers a sustainable alternative to hydrogen production— improving efficiency, enabling the use of industrial waste heat, and significantly reducing the need for critical raw materials.
“By focusing on the often overlooked intermediate temperature range and advancing both cell materials and stack designs, we’re developing a clean, compact, and resource-efficient solution that is going to help Europe to close the future hydrogen supply gap,” said Dr. Rémi Costa, Project Coordinator from DLR.
The press release outlines PEPPER’s technical goals, the advantages of planar PCCELs, and the consortium’s collaborative effort to bring this technology to market by 2035.
